  • Synopsis: This beautifully animated classic was directed by Osamu Tezuka, the celebrated "Father of Anime" and creator of such titles as Astro Boy and Kimba the White Lion (widely regarded as an inspiration for Disney's "The Lion King"). In this tale based on the original manga, Unico is a friendly unicorn with the power to bring happiness to the people around him. When the gods of his world take notice of this special ability to spread joy without their help, they become enraged and order the West Wind to cast Unico into exile. Luckily, the West Wind takes pity on the tiny unicorn and carries him from place to place instead, hiding him from the gods and their new minion, the Night Wind. In his journeys, Unico meets a rascally devil, a lonely old woman, and an abandoned kitty who wishes to become a witch! Unico must put his powers to the test as he tries to make new friends so far from home-- and as he tries to protect those friends from the dangers that befall them, including the schemes of a handsome baron with a dark secret... This is a classic tale of love, self-sacrifice, and the true meaning of friendship.
